Bier (das) a.k.a The Münchner Hell from Paulaner

My first ever experience with the beer I've chosen for this review was at a German market back in California, the Paulaner Hefe-Weissbier. I loved how smooth it was, how little carbonation it had , and how a slice of orange or lemon made it such a refreshing treat for those hot summer days. So, of course I was surprised to know that they had other beers, which brings me to this review of Paulaner Muenchner-Hell.

This beer is marketed as a lager, and right off the bat you'll notice it has just enough carbonation, a nice golden blond colour, and just enough head to not be too bothersome while pouring . There are definitely noticeable hints of grains, stone fruit and just enough sweetness to bring you back for seconds and even thirds(only an abv of: 4.9%). Overall, I'd really recommend this one if you are a fan of the aforementioned Hefe-Weissbier and want to venture into familiar territory.

Fun fact: Paulaner is a German brewery, established in the early 17th century in Munich by the Minim friars of the Neudeck ob der Au cloister. The mendicant order and the brewery are named after Francis of Paola, the founder of the order. Paulaner is one of six breweries who provide for Oktoberfest.

La Choulette de Printemps: A French surprise.

I was able to pick up this artisanale beer at the Foire aux fromages et aux vins de Coulommiers while visiting there with a buddy, the same buddy who gave me the guest review a couple posts back.  This particular brew is one of three types, and is marketed as a Bière de Garde due to its medium body, sweet after-taste, and medium-dark colour. It's got a pleasant , light-malty flavour and smells of light hops and cellar must. The head is little to none, and I was surprised at how smooth it was, all the way to the bottom of the glass. The abv sits at 6 percent, and overall, I really liked this one. I'll have to search for a local vendor , as the price was a bit expensive being it was sold at the above listed "cheese fair". Definitely recommend this one for social drinking and hot days.

A remedy for that thirst- Wychwood Dr. Thirsty’s No. 4 Blonde

I came across this beer while in London, and chose it simply because of the label. The color is a nice golden yellow, and after opening it, you could easily pick up scents of fruits, citrus, and hops. The taste was a typical British blonde beer: very light carbonation; smooth foam and a somewhat grainy and bitter aftertaste. Overall, this Doctor didn't have what it takes to quench my thirst but it is a nice brew to have laying around on a hot, dry day; though you'll need a few to quench that thirst, which shouldn't be a problem as the abv is only 4.1 percent. .

Książęce Czerwony Lager

This is another beer I picked up while in Poland. The color is a nice light brown, somewhat  red.  It is quite bitter, leaves the mouth dry and didn't leave a pleasant aftertaste at all. It is listed as having  4.9 percent alcohol, so the bitterness definitely came from the ingredients. It is also a bottom fermented beer, though I don't know that that has anything to do with the odd taste.  I think it is a beer meant to be had with some food, spicy or bbq, as the taste was again, quite bitter, and it gave off a quite a "hoppy"' aroma. Wasn't one of the better ambers I've had, but happy to have tried it.

Fun fact: The label has a red crown to commemorate the King Sobieski, who was born the same year the Tyskie Brewery was founded in 1629.

Belgian strong beer: Bush Ambrée (Scaldis)

This is a Belgian brew called Bush Ambrée. Surprisingly easy drinking for a strong 12 degree (percent for our American friends) beer. Very rich caramel colour with a smooth caramel finish as well. Definitely a beer that I would keep on hand for the regular rotation. Highly recommended. Very pleasant surprise.

Fun fact: "It was created in 1933 by Alfred Dubuisson, grand-father of the present family brewer, Hugues. Its former name was "Bush Beer 24°" (the density in Ballings), but today it is known as Bush Amber. Its amber colour is due to the use of caramel malt in the production process. Its bitter sweet taste provides it with firmness and personality. What's more, it helps digestion."

Poland time: Zamkowy Raciborskie Klasycznie Warzone

My first beer comes from Poland. I was recently on vacation in Warsaw and took the opportunity to give their beers a try. "Zamkowy Raciborskie Klasycznie Warzone", is a premium lager, brewed by Browar Zamkowy Raciborz. It has  a light golden color,  little to no head, and smells of  malt and hops. Overall, it's a typical lager with a bit of a bitter beginning but becomes sweeter towards the end with what tasted like honey and fruit.  If you've had lager before, this is nothing special, but pretty tasty and low enough in alcohol(5%) that you can enjoy a few without worrying.
